Welcome to Kangaroo Island
It’s true what they say. There’s an unmistakable sanctity about Kangaroo Island. With its raw and rugged coastline, impeccably clear waters, natural wonders and wildlife, Kangaroo Island is known as nature’s playground.
And there’s one more thing we love about this place. After bushfires devastated the island in 2019-2020, they have put accessibility at the core of their infrastructure rebuild!
Getting there and around
It’s best to have your own vehicle
to explore all of what Kangaroo Island has to offer.
To get to the island you will need
to take the Sealink Ferry from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw. Book this as far in
advance as you can. Especially in peak seasons.
What to see
Kangaroo Island is full of highlights. From a birds or prey experience to deep limestone caves, “the best beach in Australia” to awesome food and produce – this place has it all. We tried to pick 3 must see items … but it wasn’t easy.
Australian Sea Lion Colony at Seal Bay
If you love wildlife, the Australian Sea Lion colony at Seal Bay is not just a highlight of Kangaroo Island, it’s one of Australia’s truly unique nature experiences.
There are only 10,000 Australian Sea Lions left in the wild and Seal Bay is home to 800 of them. With a guide, you can get right down on the sand at the beach and be really in the thick of it with 300kg giants just metres away.
Flinders Chase National Park
Ok, we cheated a bit here. The Flinders-Chase National Park contains multiple natural wonders.
We put it best ourselves. This is from the diary o Trusted Travel’s 2022 trip to Kangaroo Island:
This wilderness features the iconic Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch and a long-nosed fur seal colony. It sits at the remote western end of Kangaroo Island some 150km from where our ferry had dropped us the day before. We were astonished by the scale and beauty of Admiral’s Arch and the resident colony of long-nosed fur seals added an extra element to this amazing natural scene.
Then there’s Remarkable Rocks… where to start? We guess the name says it all. Sitting high on ancient rocky platforms above the sea, Remarkable Rocks’ surreal shapes and golden orange colours provide extraordinary photo opportunities.
Stokes Bay
Newly crowned as Australia’s best beach! Stokes bay offers a surreal experience from the very start. To get the you need to walk through 300m of caves and slots carved out of rock. And when you arrive at the other end, you are greeted by a true paradise complete with protected lagoon for swimming.
Kangaroo Island is a Trusted Travel favourite. We went in November 2022 and we will be headed back this year! Why don’t you join us?
