Meet Margaret, one of Trusted Travel’s biggest advocates! Margaret is a lady from the Far South Coast of New South Wales whose first trip with Trusted Travel was on our ever-popular Home and Away + More! trip in 2019. After the first taste, Margaret couldn’t help coming back for more.
First thing’s first, do you have a travel nickname?
No, I’m always Margaret.
What was the last holiday you went on and what did you enjoy about it most?
Um… I went to Canberra, I really enjoyed seeing the shops and wandering around but I especially enjoyed the zoo! I’ve also been to Bondi and Palm Beach for the Home and Away + More! trip and it was great, I really enjoyed seeing the lifeguards from Bondi Rescue. Sometimes I go to my sister’s place for a little getaway also.
What’s the one place you wish you could go and why?
Ooooooh! I wish I could go to Disneyland in America. Then I can see all my favourite Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. I don’t really like the rides but would love to see the sideshows – I especially want to go see the Disneyland parade.
What’s the one thing that you always take with you when you travel?
Annabel! Annabel is my doll who is like a real baby to me and I take her wherever I go to keep me company. I always take Annabel’s stroller as well so I can lean on it when I’m walking and Annabel gets to see the sights. Yeah!
What’s your favourite thing about travelling with Trusted Travel?
All the people I run into on my trips are nice people. Everyone I talk to in the community as well as the Trusted Travel staff are all lovely and very helpful people! The Trusted Travel staff are a great help to me and they look after me very well. They always make sure they meet me when I’m getting off my bus from Bega and make sure I get on the right bus on the way home too.
Can you share an interesting fact about yourself with us?
I always talk about my fundraising stuff! I always tell people what I do for the people in Africa. I make bags jams, scrunchies, I sew things and then I sell them at the Pambula Markets with The Rotary Club. I then give the money to my friend Lynne who organises to have it donated to people in Africa. I’ve also spoken at a conference about my fundraising and how special it is to me – It’s always in my heart to help!
For a person travelling with a disability whether it be independently or with support, what advice would you give them?
I’m ready! Book in and not be worried about your travel because everyone in the community and all the clients on the trips are really fantastic people! You’ll get there and you’ll have a great holiday. All the people I’ve travelled with are great to talk to and sharing a room makes it easy to become friends.
Do you have any final words of wisdom to share?
I’m looking forward to going to Wollongong to have a look around on my next trip! I can’t wait to see where we stay. I’ve been to Wollongong but I’ve never been shown around properly.
Thanks for sharing, Margaret! Can’t wait to see you on your next trip.
