Game on in Adelaide
Origin here we come! Our super keen group of Trusted Travellers and dedicated NSW supporters arrived at the airport to head to Adelaide, South Australia. The big event was State of Origin’s game one, where NSW and QLD went head to head – we were not alone at the airport with lots of blues supporters rocking their blues merch!
We arrived in Adelaide, jumped on a bus and headed into the city to our hotel.
After settling in, we went on an adventure through the city and went to check out Rundle Mall including the historical Adelaide Arcade. Everyone got excited when we saw a countdown clock to the big game! It made it all feel so real… we were really going to the game! We then went to grab a late lunch to tide us over until dinner.
Tonight we found a lovely old cozy pub with a fire place for dinner, then headed back to our hotel for some rest. Tomorrow was going to be a big day.
In the morning we woke up and enjoyed a buffet breakfast at our hotel. We then ventured off down the road to the tram stop to get some sightseeing in. We headed to the beautiful beachside town of Glenelg. We walked along the big Jetty – it got a little windy so far out in the ocean. We discovered a really cool exhibition that caught our attention at Glenelg Town Hall.
Roll up! Roll up! David Archer and his amazing interactive artworks, inspired from Victorian and Edwardian travelling sideshows and carnivals. We peered in wonder into one of his hand cranked dioramas and we had our photo taken through the incredible “Lens of Truth.” This was hilarious as it made everyone have a ginormous head!
After having some outrageous fun, the lovely staff suggested we go the brand new Marina Pier a short stroll up the road, we had lunch at Sunset Bar overlooking the water and the boats while listening to funky DJ beats enjoying the serenity of this beautiful town.
It was time to make our way back to the tram to have some down time before the big game tonight. Before the big game, some of us had NSW spray painted on our face and head to show our support. We were a little early, so we found a cafe in the stadium and had coffees and milkshakes before finding our awesome seats and got ready for the big game. First though we enjoyed listening to The Living End play live on stage. They rocked the stadium along with fireworks.
Time to kick off! 7:35pm Adelaide time, between the Blues and Maroons. At one stage it was head to head however the Maroons came in strong and won the game. In true NSW spirit we held our heads high and enjoyed to atmosphere of this unique event.
This morning we woke up and enjoyed our last buffet breakfast to fuel our bellies for another fun. We jumped on a Tram and headed to Adelaide Gaol. We took in all of the history of the Gaol and followed a QR code trail, listened to the stories that some of the prisoners went through and the history of Elizabeth Woolcock the only woman hanged in South Australia.
It was time to make our way back to the tram to collect our bags from our hotel, flag down a bus and head to the airport to travel back home to our loved ones. We all feel so lucky to have attended the first ever State of Origin at the awesome Adelaide Oval.
