The excitement for game 2 was bursting from our group as we excitedly made our way to Sydney Airport in anticipation for a return to the winner’s circle for the might New South Wales Blues!
We boarded our flight and touched down in Brisbane. The city was alive with an electric atmosphere and in the streets we were surrounded by Blues and Maroons supporters!
We checked ourselves into our accommodation and enjoyed dinner as a group, getting to know each other and enjoying plenty of stories and laughs! Of course, no Trusted Travel State of Origin story sharing would be complete without talking about our favourite teams and the biggest, best games of footy we had attended.
The next day we explored the South Bank area, taking in views of the river, the Story Bridge, man-made beach and the Brisbane eye in the sky. We tucked into a delicious pub lunch, along with dozens of other New South Wales and Queensland supporters!
Afterwards we jumped on the train, making our way to Suncorp Stadium for some footy action. Formerly known as Lang Park and boasting a capacity of over 52,000 spectators, Suncorp Stadium is one of the truly great Rugby League arenas. And when State of Origin comes to town, it is known for providing one of the most hostile atmospheres in world sport.
The result of the game was not so great … but that totally depends on who you talk to. Our group from south of the border were sadly on the losing side but nonetheless happy to have experienced the greatest spectacle in Rugby League – a State of Origin game in Brisbane.
It is a trip we will remember for a lifetime and we all vowed we would be back in enemy territory again for another game in the future. Next time around, we hope for a better result for the mighty Blues.
