Monday morning came around and it was Dubbo time! We said goodbye to our families and friends at our Wollongong head office. Just like that our awesome, hyped-up road trip began…. off to Dubbo!
Our road trip began by picking up a few of our friends along the way to the Blue Mountains where we met up with the other convoying bus and ate some yummy lunch at the Penrith Panthers Leagues Club. With our stomachs full we continued our journey further inland towards Dubbo spending our first night in Lithgow. Mind you the brisk weather didn’t stop us from having a great night!
From the sun coming up to finishing our breakfast, we started our engines again and hit the road. We headed for our pit stop in Orange where the gang grabbed a quick bite to eat and demolished some awesome food at the RSl club. With the afternoon slowly creeping up on us we made it to our destination where we’d go on to spend two nights in safari-like cabins on the premises of the iconic Dubbo Zoo. Woohoo!
Waking up and hearing some of the animals just a couple hundred metres away from our beds is truly a surreal experience! That got us pumped and excited to see all the animals today! With all of us aboard our safari buggy and our iconic bus, Trippy, we began exploring the zoo. Even though we had some rain, we didn’t let that stop us from seeing some of Africa and Australia’s most awesome and extraordinary wildlife. Our favourites were defiantly the cuddly koalas and the enormous, cute rhinos. What a Day it was! But let me tell you there’s nothing better than kicking back after a big day out with mates and enjoying a lovely pub feed, because that’s exactly what we did at the famous south Dubbo Tavern! And just like that, another day ends and another awaits….
With our week coming to an end we packed our bags once more and headed back to Lithgow. But not before heading to check out the historic Dubbo gaol, where we went back in time to see what life was like behind the four walls in the 19th and 20th century. It was definitely a highlight of the trip! We also checked out the Royal flying doctor service at one of their home bases at Dubbo airport. This is where we caught a glimpse of some of the fantastic work our pilots and health care workers conduct to help all Australians around the country in need of medical assistance. This was absolutley another highlight! With the day coming to a close, we arrived back at Lithgow where we enjoyed a nice dinner together at the Workers club to conclude our last night together and the end of our road trip journey.
Friday came around which meant it was home time, though not before grabbing another quick bite to eat the Penrith Panthers again. For some, we said goodbye in Sydney while others headed back to the gong where it all started. What a week it was. It was an action-packed adventure and definitely a road trip for the ages!
Thanks everyone for a tremendous Trusted Travel holiday. The memories of this trip will stay with us all forever.
