You’ve heard of Seven Mile Beach… Well we saw that beach and SEVENTY miles of other beaches as well! From Lennox Head, all the way up to easternmost point of Australia, Cape Byron, then along the coastline of Byron Bay itself, we saw it all. We explored the bush, a crystal castle, a farm and spent much of our holiday poolside as well.

We arrived after our joy flight from Sydney to Ballina, and the excitement started early with the plane doing circles in the sky because it was too windy to land. It gave us a great look over all the places we would soon be exploring. We weren’t just blown away by the views from the sky, our apartments were so close to the water, we could hear the ocean from our balconies.

We visited the Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens and saw plenty of beautiful crystals and statues. We went for a horseback trail ride through the bush with Zephyr Horses which was an exciting experience for everyone and the majority favourite by the end of the trip. We visited the Cape Byron Lighthouse where we found the easternmost point of Australia, and we could see for miles in every direction (some of us looked for home but we couldn’t quite see Sydney or Wollongong). We had a river cruise down the Brunswick River in Brunswick Heads on a Morning Eco Rainforest River Cruise and came across pelicans, fish, birds-of-prey and birds of play. On the farm, we pet goats, donkeys, a guinea pig and some rabbits, all while the fluffy cow and alpaca with a mullet were eyeing us off from the field next to us at Summerland Farm, a beautiful macadamia and avocado farm set high in the Ballina-Byron hinterland. We did lots of sightseeing, swimming, eating and shopping too.

On our final night, we threw on our imaginary sombreros, and we all cooked up a huge Mexican feast to celebrate the week we’d had, remembering our adventures and laughing at all the funny moments we’d shared together. We ended the evening with a night-time stroll along the beach to check out the nearly full moon that lit up the night sky; it was the perfect final night to end our trip.
