Holiday Description
Join us for a weekend of inclusion, celebrating uniqueness proudly and standing up to inequality loudly.
The 2024 Festival will call on our communities to imagine and demand the world for ourselves we rightfully deserve under the theme Our Future…
Our Future… beckons all to participate, influence, and champion LGBTQIA+ causes. It’s a chance to look forward while honouring the past, and will be a testament to the power of coming together to manifest endless possibilities.
On 2 March 2024 our future doesn’t have to be a dream. The 46th Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade will take over Oxford Street, Flinders Street and Anzac Parade for the biggest night-time LGBTQIA+ Parade in the world. No future is a match for a future where we’re together.
“Our Future… is not just a theme but a call to action, a bold invitation to define and shape our path forward as a community. It acknowledges our past, but encourages us to envision what comes next. It’s a statement that is open to interpretation and engagement, irrespective of geographical location or physical attendance. It’s our collective journey and story to share.” Gil Beckwith, Acting CEO of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
Sydney will be buzzing as people from all over flock to the city for the event, so while we’re there we will also have a picnic in Centennial Park and do some shopping at Paddy’s Markets, plenty of bargains and fantastic things to see at the markets. Such a fun afternoon.
Bondi Beach is visited by some colourful characters, being Mardi Gras there are bound to be some fun sights! Say hi to the lifeguards and check out the colourful street art and tricksters at the skate ramps. We can also cool off with a dip at the iconic Bronte Baths.
In Newtown, we will browse the quirky stores, the vintage shops, record store and some of the coolest second-hand stores around. Many treasures have been discovered here! Newtown has plenty of hip places with some amazing beer gardens and food!
